drum will not turn?

my zanussi jetstream 1000 has ceased to rotate everything else works ok pump is ok digital readout seems ok the machine started making a strange noise yesterday as though something was rubbing could that have been a frayed belt or similar

hi belts dont usually come off for no reason????(bearings)
or motor brushes gone
