do i need a new remote for matsui dvd rewriter?

I bought a matsui dvd rewriter second hand, came to connect it to tv but the remote not working, the model number is DVDR100. I can pay dvd's but can't do any thing else without remote. If I buy a new remote do you think this will help. thankyou.
