ha ha . . . you're all wrong. i am a carpenter of 27 years and i must tell you that skirting ladders do in fact, exist. When fixing skirting boards, sometimes the floors are uneven, so we fix the boards to the wall until the floor slopes down. then we use a short length of timber about 400mm long to sit on top of the board and back on to the floor (the "fabled" skirting ladder). all you do is press down on this with your foot, while making your fixing. the skirting then fits closer to the floor & yr carpets hide the rest. You may have trouble buying one though ! we just use any old sh..... :)
