My Kenmore 60 series washing machine will not go into spin cycle?

My Kenmore 60 series washing machine will not go into spin cycle? When it gets to the spin cycle it makes a it makes a noise almost like grinding. I turned it on it's side to see underneath and I noticed something like a belt that looks like it was stretched but it is not broken and is around the bottom part of the drum. Help

Went back and read your question again and realized my problem was not the same as yours. I didn't have the grinding. If you go to that link you may be able to find a different answer that will work for you.

I had the same problem with my 60 series and it turned out to be the lid switch. I found out how to open the washer at this link:
http://groups.msn.com/Appliantology/washers.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=283 It was pretty easy. I removed the switch and checked it with an ohm meter and it was fine. There is a plastic actuator assembly that was no longer making contact with the switch button when the lid plunger came down on it. I found a new actuator at PartSelect for about $14 including shipping but I just superglued a little piece of plastic on to the actuator so that it would hit the button and that works for now. If it goes out again I'll order the new actuator assembly.
