Check the float. It's a small, cylindrical shaped, thing at the front of the dishwasher. It should raise up and down, unhindered and make a clicking sound when it does.
Raise it and lower it several times, to be sure it's clean.
They will often get stuck because of soap, calcium build up, etc.
