how can i fix the sounds in my desktop?

Not a specific request but i think you mean the windows sounds. Typically the ones for windows startup and the chimes within windows. There are two ways to change them...

1st

You may modify the way windows looks completely by right clicking the mouse anywhere on the desktop ( not over an icon or shortcut ) a small menu will pop up select Properties with a your mouse and a left click. a window will open with tabbed options (Themes,Desktop,Screensaver,Apperance,Settings)
If you select Themes you will then be able to change the apperance of windows and Pre-selected sounds...

2nd

If you dont want to change the looks of windows but wish to change the sounds within it....

Start Button, Settings, Control Panel, (dependant on version of windows the next choice varies in name) Sounds and Audio Devices.. XP version given. Earlier versions had different names but same area to access.

Open this icon New window opens Volume, Sounds, Audio, Voice, Hardware.

Select sounds to be able to change or disable a particular sound for an event like windows startup ( the sound you hear when windows loads) Disable, Enable or change anything listed then click Apply and Ok when your finshed.

To speed your windows shutdown and load times DISABLE the sounds listed in there :-)

Enjoy
