Error E16 on a Ford 6000 RDS unit?

My unit has problems accepting and ejecting Cd's and also makes a whirling sound(trying to eject a disc that is not there)when the ignition is turned on.Is there any remedy other than a Ford main dealer please

Noticed that keeping a CD in when using the radio stops the annoying sound.
