What does the F2 error code mean that is wrong with the

Just have to understand, DO NOT just pull the silver tray upwards when removing. It all comes apart separately. Also make sure the magnet goes back in with the grey vertical tabs correctly...so it spins nice and easyyyy. LoL

P.S. and become a F&P technician on these machines, because you have to always keep it maintained...LoL

my dishwasher is a dd605. no error codes just light blinking. dishwasher would shut down after a few seconds and go into alarm. i removed rotor and notice it wasn't spinning freely. i sprayed a little WD40 on it and freed it up. I think the bottom drawer gets some water from the top drawer and there is always standing water in it which causes the bottom rotor to seize up. i reassembled and it operated. Hoping i solved problem or will have to buy a new rotor

See Kam's response below. Kam is correct. I would emphasize that you have to take the rotor assembly completely apart by prying off pieces (the blue fins at the top, and the grey impeller at the bottom).

The rotor magnet is a blue cylinder that sits inside a sort of grey plastic tripod. The impeller fins (at the bottom of the rotor) and blue cylinder must move independently from the tripod. If they do not move freely, it is likely because there is too much friction between the black cylinder and the cylindrical plastic base it sits in. Kam sanded down his black cylinder. I was able to instead Dremel out my plastic base a little, widening it so that the parts move freely. I also lubricated these two parts to help everything move more freely.

Good luck to all others who made the mistake of buying a Fisher Paykel.

Got the F2 code today on my 10 year old double drawer model. I haven't had any other service issues in the last 5-6 years so I am still very happy with this brand.
The impeller on the rotor would not move so we tried to remove the rotor. In trying to pull out the rotor assembly, the impeller came loose and the brown plastic flange came loose leaving the bottom piece (magnet) stuck in the hole. Tried to pry it out and also tried to pull it out by the shaft with channel lock pliers but no success. I have a new rotor on order but need to know the best way to remove the old one without damaging anything else.

I just used this great info to figure out my issue (rotor, duh), and found the cheapest to be directly from F&P here in Huntington Beach, CA. With tax and shipping it was just under $50.

Now, I did download the videos from some place, but I still can't figure out how turning the side plastic pieces to perpendicular and depressing the grey buttons allows me to lift my drawer out for an F1 error (water soak up). I had them turned and pressed and was lifting and lifting to no avail. Anyone help me out?

F2 does refer to the rotors. The 603 is presently under a recall on these parts. The part itself however, does a lot of work, and generally does it very well. Hard objects, like fragments of sea shells, glass, olive pits, or pits from stone fruit will damage it. The damage can be on the base of the sump itself, typically in the form of burrs.
Scraping the burrs is typically inadvisable for risk of aggravating the issue. Do so at your own risk. The rotors are easy to remove and fit, and the cost of about $40 is worth it.

Dish Drawers, work much like any other dishwasher. Scrape dishes before you put them in. No need to rinse if you're cleaning within 24 hours. Dried egg yolk and baked on foods, take physical effort to remove. They aren't magic, but most problems tend to be user faults.

Huge thanks to all especially Kam. Despite the rotor spinning freely I still had the dreaded F2 error. Some skillful paring with a stanley blade got the burs off and voila!

To all who don't like the old dishdrawer... go back to hand washing for a while. :-]

I love how F&P parts are easy to buy, and we've had a dd603 for about 5yrs and a large family so both draws are used twice sometimes three times a day. It's done squashed mice on top lid closer, main board top draw, two rotors/impellers, Best part is that it's all been under extended warranty until now.

Kam. Just fixed an F2 error. Your instructions are great. After getting the wash impeller moving slightly (a struggle) some lubricant sorted the rest of the problem.

F2 means that your rotor isn't moving properly and will need to be replace or it needs to be removed and check for something blocking it. Below is a link to a video that will show you how to take your dishwasher apart and repair your Fisher and Paykel unit.

Thanks Kam! So excited that I was able to fix this F2 issue myself by getting the blue fin to move. This has been my first 'repair' issue. As far as functionality, very disappointed in the cleaning results. I always need to wipe the lips of my glasses with a damp towel. We got this dishwasher when we finished our basement. We thought it would be a great choice for glassware...love the drawers and just assumed we would get spotless glasses because of the price paid.

thanks for your advice - I just took the bottom out and spun the blue plastic thing - and it works. Now this is the bottom of the two dish drawers and it never gets used - was probably just dry. We have purchased two of these dishwashers for two different houses and over the last 11 years this is the only problem we have ever had. All my dishes fit in and it is a real delight to load and unload. We have a regular door drop dishwasher in our winter home and it is a pain to load and unload. that said we are a family of two and do not use more than one drawer full a daqy

I have the Fisher Paykel duel drawer dishwasher and followed the sugestions on your site . The impeller spins freely out of the unit . I cleaned and used a bottle brush and found a little plastic toy star in the top unit . I reassembled and I still hear a noise such as a solinoid trying to engage the the f2 code appears and it stops . What other ideas would you suggest ?

Thanks Kam...the sandpapering suggestion did the trick.

A while back we had a service guy come in and he told us that the reason the dishwasher wouldn't drain was because something (probably a glass fragment) had sheared away the flange at the entrance to the drain and that the water just rotated around the drain well without leaving. The flange was definitely absent compared to the other drawer.

(The two drawers on a FP dishwasher are useful, they remind me of owning Jaguar cars...you need two to have one running.)

Anyway, the fix was simple, replace the drain well. Unfortunately, the drain well is fused to the motor and you have to replace the motor as well.

To make matters worse, the service guy said that when Fisher Paykel introduced the machine the drain well was metal and it didn't have this problem. So they changed it to soft plastic and fused it to the motor to make a $40 repair a $600 repair.

great advice here, thanks so much. Had F2 plus horrible grindy noise!! Had stripped out all the bits as far as the blue fins with no luck fixing. As soon as I read here how to turn that anti clockwise and lift out I found a piece of a peach pit under there causing the trouble. It had also burred the lower rotor blades abit and I had to cut them back abit with razor blade as suggested, but it now seems to be working fine, yay.
I wouldn't get another one of these, have already had to replace the whole heating unit, so glad to fix this myself:)

I've got a similar issue, I've tried these solutions and managed to get the dishwasher to run through a cycle as a result, but it won't drain. I"ve tried putting baking soda and vinegar down the drain but that didn't work. Is it possibly an electronics failure?

Dissassembling the dish drawer rotor and pump was easy - no tools required - i was able to identify and clear a small blockage, and get my dish drawer back up and running smoothly - All thanks to this site!
After unblocking the gunk in the drain hole, the dish drawer still wouldn't operate, and displayed an F2 error code. I needed to remove the remaining water from the machine first, then it worked fine.
Unblocking the machine revealed it was in excellent mechanical condition, and I gave it a good clean at the same time (so it smells and looks like new!).
Took about 45mins from start to finish.

The F2 code on my F&P dish draw was the pump had siezed. To check remove all the dishes followed by the grey dish wrack wedged in the bottom. Lift off the plastic spray arm to reveal a grey plastic ring around the outside of the stainless mesh, and you will also see the blue plastic impeller. Turn this anti clockwise and lift out the whole stainless mesh cover.
Then there is a brownish ring with the blue pump impeller on top. Turn this anticlockwise and the pump should lift straight up and out. My blue impeller had come off and lifted off with the brown ring leaving the rest of the pump stuck in the hole! I eventually managed to get it out without damaging the housing it fits into. Replace the motor/impeller unit and off you go. Yours could just be stuck of course. A clean may do the same trick.

I have had 20 dishwashers in my life time and never had the problems that I had with the $1000 Fisher Paykel. One of the biggest mistakes that I made when we remodeled our house. It is just a bad design and instead of correcting the problems itself you have to go behind the dishwasher and unplug it just to get the beeping to stop. You can't turn it off from the front panel when there is a problem. I would never buy another one.

I had this issue on my bottom drawer, and it turned out that the reason that the washing arm was not turning was that there was too much water left in the drawer.

Apparently the last cycle didn't clear all of the water out of the bottom due to a power glitch and the remaining water was impeeding the motion of the washing arm.

I scooped out the water and re-ran the cycle and it worked fine.

****F2 means that the rotor (PN 525884P) is sensed to not be turning, It could be a small piece of food debris, a tiny fragment of a shell or broken glass, has gotten lodged in the wash impeller, or it could be a seized bearing. The buzzing sound is most likely a burr on the lower portion of the wash rotor. Remove the rack, then the filter plate (the large silver plate with all the holes in it), and then the wash impeller (the blue finned "fan" in the middle). While looking at the lower rotor, be sure that its fins are crisp and sharp with no flashing or burrs. Remove burrs with a razor blade. Does the fan spin freely? If not, try a few drops of lubricating oil on the bearings while working the rotor back and forth trying to free it up. Is there anything in the cup that would prevent the rotor from turning? (fragment of glass, shell, etc)***

In my case, the rotor was stuck not because of any fragments, but because the black cylinder above the magnet (and below the metal shaft that is attached to blue fin which allows the fan to rotate inside the plastic housing, must take all rotor assembly out to see it, not hard at all). Blue fin can be separated out with a bit of pull.

No luck with any lubricant. I used some 400 grit sandpaper to sand down the black cylinder until, with the plastic housing in place, the metal shaft can rotate FREELY (one hand spin should go 5-10 rounds of rotation). My problem is solved.

Fisher & Paykel products are certainly NOT the best. I have owned 2 dish drawers. Both are terrible and constantly break down. I am in the midst of finding replacements for both (different properties). One has simply been the worst appliance that I have purchased in over 20 years and it simply does not clean. The other model leaks and now an F2 - motor problem. WHY do many people claim that these are good products. Good design on the exterior certainly, but a MAJOR headache. I just want a dish washer that washes. STAY AWAY.
