I have a sanyo TRC-8080 memo-scriber that I just got for transcription and as soon as I went to use it, it won't play but will fastforward and rewind fine. I already tried cleaning the heads, but didn't seem to help. When play is pressed, it sounds like it is working but when you look at the tape it doesn't move at all.

Try to visit the rubber belt attached to the take up reel, it might be broken or loose. If detached to the pulley, reattach it.
