machine problem singer 7422?

In the middle of stitching, the machine stopped working completely- all the lights started flashing and the machine beeps a few times. I turned off power for a few hours and when turned back on it just beeps and flashes. I believe this is a warning to change, clean, or fix something, but where do I start?

I think there is still some threat caught around the bobbin winder and I can't get it off how do I take the front of the machine off so I can get to the bottom of the winder my machine is lighting up but when you push on the foot petal it doesn't do anything but beeb

Hello Jen,
Not too familar with this model but start with the basic and go through a process of elimination, check that there is no fluff in the bobbin case area, there may be a small sensor near the bobbin case to detect fluff, if there is not and the Instruction book does not help then the chances are that there is an electrical fault somewhere, do you have a control button to sew with the machine as well as a foot control, if you have then make sure that both are working, if the button control is working the machine then the problem is in the foot control, have you put any oil in the machine lately, your machine will need very little oil and if you have put some in lately you may have put too much and it may have seeped onto an elctronic panel, are you have to change all the controls such as stitch with and patterns, if you can then it will seem that the problem could well be in the foot control or in the motor, if your machine is fully computerised or electronic and you cannot solve the problem then it will mean a shop repair I am afraid, sorry if I can't be much more of a help, I have been in the trade for 30 years but US machines have a different spec to UK models, hope you get it sorted though.
Ken
