The rear amps on my Pioneer VSX5000 stopped working in the surround mode. They work in the parallel or auxilliary mode, but I cannot control the volume separately from the main (front). What could be wrong? Is it something I could repair myself?

I forgot the intermittent loud rumbling before the surrounds conked out for good---like a thunderstorm. Sometimes it would shut the whole receiver down. Also, I still get an occasional pop from the right rear speaker---a short in that amp section, perhaps?--- and the display and tuner no longer work.
