How to fix pull-cord light?

I have an overhead light in the pantry. When I went to pull the cord the other day to turn off the light, the cord fell out of the light fixture, leaving the light on. I have since disconnected the light bulb, but I want to know how to put the cord back into the light fixture so the light will work again. Is this possible, or do I need to buy a new overhead light fixture?

this is possible to refit the cord.
isolate power and remove the light.
you should see where the cord has snapped.
refit the cord by copying out what you see

It depends on where is has snapped. If you look inside the switch ensure that that the power for that circuit is off and the breaker. (If you don't understand the last sentence - get a competent person to do it for you.)
