What causes Sony TV intermittent black screens circa 1993?

I have a Sony Trinitron from 1993 that takes the picture longer and longer to come up. Screen is black, sound fine, you can change channels, etc but it stays black a long time and then it comes on. Then the screen blacks out on and off and frequently when changing channels but not always.

What does it need and how much does it cost?

the CRT is weak the video mute circuit is muting the video is why the set goes black.
you may be able to turn up the screen control a little and solve your trouble or find a tv shop with a crt machine and have them lightly clean the crt to raise the emission of the crt
also this tv is old and past it's prime so sooner or later the tube will go out
