My Indesit (WN1196WG) washing machine started making blue sparks and then stopped working. I found the brushes were worn so I bought a new set. However when I went to fit them I found the angled face of the brushes were facing the wrong way. Can I still fit these or do I need to fit the same as came out?

yes but you have to file the brush flat or with a slight gradant due to the com, if the comutator is discoloured or pitted this means that it won't be long before the motor gives up, or when the motor is running you still get a blue sparks this means you have to buy a new motor, due to the com being worn out.
