it sounds like your DMA is not enable
This can only be accessed via the controller, and not the device.
right click on your computer icon
go down to properties
then click on the hardware tab
then click on the hardware manager button
Look under IDE/ATAPI controllers, then double-click Primary and also Secondary (In the Advanced Settings tab).
and enable the DMA option
this should solve your problem
