How do I align a tap vertically?

How do you ensure that when replacing say an outside tap that when fully tightened the tap is pointing in the vertical 6 o'clock position and not leaking? When I do it it always seems to end up upside down or pointing sideways. Thanks.

wrap abit more ptfe tape around the tap until it's tight a 12o'clock position.
you can add some liquid ptfe or thread seal.
