The start/pause button lights up and the ready button lights up but nothing happens.

silly question - but is the water turned on to the machine- if the machine fills then its a controller fault or a valve inlet fault - or a door safety interlock fault - washing machines like to know everything is ok before they start so they check the door is closed ,check they have water and then start , yours sounds like it found something wrong ie open door that stops it filling
