How do I get the foul smell out of my Miele dishwasher!?

I have a Miele G870 dishwasher. The Salt Reservoir is full of water all the time...I do not use Salt in my machine because my water is soft...It has food particles floating in the reservior and it never drains...It has a foul smell coming out of it! I clean the Combination filter, Spray Arm and Drain pump once a week and I still have this foul smell. I have put hot water in the reservior to help with the removal of the particles floating in there but it only last for a day or so.... Please advise! Thanks

Thank you for this answer. I have had the same problem and following your advise the problem is much much less, but I do not understand the last step of your suggestion.
What is "thier salt" ?

That reservior is to hold a salt brine. Zeolite rocks inside the Miele capture minerals effectively softening the water. To remove these minerals the dishwasher regenerates the rocks by back washing with the salt brine. If you set your Miele to the lowest water hardness level it effectively shuts off the regeneration cycle. I added one dose of thier salt and have had no odor since. Apparently nothing can survive in the salt brine.
