How can I fix error 00163/00173 when starting my IBM Thinkpad 600E?

How can I fix error 00163/00173 when starting my IBM Thinkpad 600E? When I try and go pass it, it takes me to a screen with on/off icons, which just flash.

i try replacing cmos battery but the problem still persist..so wat the next step..???

First try dumping the cmos. Unplug the AC power, remove the battery, open the memory compartment. To the left you will see two wires, a red and a black, running to a little plastic connector ( the other end connects to the cmos battery) just unplug the little connecter, let it sit that way for 1/2 hour or more, reconnect the cmos battery plug in, put back battery and/or AC plug, and try retarting. If nothing, then replace the cmos battery.

Probably a flat CMOS battery. If you go to www.lenovo.com (Lenovo own all of IBM's PC assets now) you can download a maintenance manual. Step through the diagnostics in the manual and it will show you how to replace the battery.
