Can you record a television on video if you have freeview?

We have recently been given a freeview box as a present but have found that we are unable to record a television programme onto the video recorder. We have a Sony video recorder. We have asked several people but nobody is able to answer this question. We have a scart, but do we need a split scart?

Assuming that you have two SCART sockets on the STB, plug one into the TV set (usually marked TV) and the other into the recorder usually marked VCR. To set up a recording, Choose AV as the source in the recorders record menu. Most STBs have a diagram of this in the manual.
