Hoover SteamVac Dual V Brush replacement?

I have just received the replacement brushes and thought that it would be easy to install. But the little plastic knob that broke off is still inside the body of the vac. How can I get that out so I can put the new one in? Any help would be wonderful. I've taken off most of the screws I can find.

After trying to hammer a nail in it and pulling, using an extra strong glue on the end of the nail and pulling and vacuuming with no success, I finally got mad at it and took my Dremel to it. It was slow going and took a very steady hand as I didn't want it to touch to blue part. I used a drill bit about three toothpicks wide on slow speed. I cleaned the debris out with a damp Qtip and a toothpick to clean the outer rim around the blue part. It was total relief, until I realized I also need a turbine.
