How can I fix the Flush buttons on the Roca cistern?

I took apart my Roca (Dama) cistern to replace the Flushmaster but upon reassembly the two flush button now sit lower than previously - or more to the point, the round chrome fitting in which the button sit - is sitting up too high above the central column. It's exasperating! Can anyone help please?

Ric,

Sounds like you may not have located the vertical (female) slot in the 'chrome' bit into the vertical (male) locator that forces the chrome piece into one position.

Or possibly, just above the big rubber valve you have not located the four little lugs into their small slots.
