recording problems on Magnavox dvd/vcr mwd2205?

i record programs and then when trying to replay they wont track properly and when they do the sound goes to hyperspeed. If I have to trash it I will not be buying another.

My dvd player will not load or play bought dvds and sometimes
I have to unplug it for a few minutes for the power to even come on. The vhs player works fine.
