why are my water pipes making a vibrating noise after being shut off?

Why do the water pipes consistently start to hum softly, increasing in volume and then decreasing, shortly after the cold water faucet is shut off.

If it's one tap then it's a dodgy washer. If it happens with all your taps then it's because you have too high water pressure and pipes are not secure or are loose.
