air lock?

how do i unblock an air lock on all cold water taps and toilet upstairs only
bernardwise@btinternet.com, July 2007
We live in a bungalow.
Cold water stopped working in the bathroom, and like most people, we phoned a plumber.
"I'll be with you at 5.50 this evening." He was a busy person.
"How much do you charge for this air lock?
"€70 - I'll see you later today..."

This worked for me. Place a small hose (few inches long) to the bathroom tap opening and blow for one minute. You may hear water bubble in the Attic. I quickly put the hoover to the bathroom tap and the water came out straight away. We cancelled the plumber.

Our downstairs water worked fine but upstairs (hot and cold) it was only trickling out. To fix it (and after reading the answer above) I ran the bath cold water tap and stuck my hand right under it to block/stop the flow for 1-2 minutes and hey presto! the cold water came gushing back out upstairs. I repeated the same procedure with the hot water tap but allowing the cold tap to run at the same time and wearing with a pair of pink marigold gloves.

put a hose on your mains water either from the kitchen sink or outside tap then take it upstairs and attach it to the cold tap in the bathroom, then turn on mains tap and tap upstairs to blow the airbubble back into your storage tank. if it happens often you have got a pipe running uphill in the loft causing airlocks.
