Our DYSON upright vacuum cleaner has never worked very well but the suction now is pathetic. Done all the usual checking of hoses , filters and bends. Shame to throw it away but 'repair' costs would not be economic. Do you know the answer

Have you tried emptying the bin , then the yellow bit with the handle that you hold in your hand that goes into the clear bin, knock it really hard. You'll be amazed at how much dust comes out of the middle of it. I got a stick and twidlled about with it and loads (and I mean loads) of dirt came out. My Dyson is working much better now! HTH
