How do I repair a leak around a chimmney?

I have a room addition near the chimmney and there is a leak into the room from the chimmney. There does not seem to be any flashing at the base of the chimmney. How do I remove the shingles, add flashing and then seal the area?

whith old chimney's they dont have lead flashings in them . you probably have a cement fillit at the base of the stack ,, which is probably all cracked and thats why its letting water in . you could knock the fillet out and cement a new one in that would stop the leak for a while , if you want lead in there get a roofer to do it , its a tricky job and needs to be done by someone who knows what there doing

u need proper lead for lead flashing around a chimney which is not a diy job as it has to be cut at angles to fit in to the cement beds of the brickwork...usually a plumbers job or a roofer .. not a diy job
