1. Does the drum turn fairly easily by hand?
No: Motor or drum bearings seized/object jamming drum
Yes: Listen for motor turning (brushes making noise on commutator)
Motor turns? Belt is at least marginally OK. Motor doesn't turn: Belt is bad (if off of pulleys but intact, replace it anyway.)
The Asko motors are often high speed brush motors. Replace brushes in sets if worn out. Commutator should be clean and light brown, no pits or burning. Commutator MUST be perfectly round, or brush skipping, sparks and commutato burning will occur! Pits, grooving, flat spots on the commutator require commutaator stoning. Apparently Asko advises light commutator stoning at brush replacement, but only do this if the commutator has defects as above. Failing that, replace the motor if it gives troube. (gulp!)
