when i press the flush handle the toilet does not flush?

The handle on my Armatage Shanks toilet has become loose
and the tiolet is not flushing properly. I have to try 2 or 3 times to get it to flush.

Can someone please advise me what to do.

Behind the handle there is an chain or wire then push it back in and you will hear an click sound and bingo its solved also flush it first to test!please give some feed back thanks!!
