If the pack was hot when you tried to charge it, let it cool down to room temperature first. Some chargers refuse to charge hot batteries.
If you have a volt meter, see if you can get a reading from the battery's terminals. If the battery is charged, the voltage will be above the advertised voltage. If it is below that, either the pack is damaged/worn out, or it did not charge for some reason.
A new battery will probably cost almost as much as the entire unit. Consider a corded trimmer - lighter, and unlimited run time.
