I have recently moved into a new house in a new area & found that the main stop cock under the sink leaks slightly. Can any one please tell me how much would be a fair cost for replacing this? I don't know any plumbers locally & have never had this sort of work done before and I don't want to go in blind.

new stop cock £2.21 from screw fix, if its a compression joint it may just need tightening, have a look if it has nuts on the stop cock or if it is soldered in place.

if it's easy access your looking about an hours labour and parts.
you should get it done for £60 / £80
unless the job has been bodged before or a pain to get to.

Yes, its on the pavement outside and the one to replace is in a unit under the sink, I would say easy access

depends where you are , how hard it is to get to , can you find your outside stopcock ?
