triggers trip switch and cuts off all electric in house?

Can it be repaired or is it not worth it. It is about 9 years old and is an ariston, washer only. I have used the same number cycle for years and changed it before this happened. I normally use it 1/2 times a week only. I recently had a new boiler fixed and the plumber had to fix earth to some radiators because he said the house wasn't earthed, he said i might get problems with electricity, could this be one? it was about 7 months ago though when the plumber came.
