We have an Electrolux Diplomat cannister vaccum cleaner. The suction has always been superb, but now it has suddenly gone limp. We've changed the bag, turned power to maximum, and closed all air escape valves, but still the suction is poor. The tube seems to be clear (and in any even the suction right into the cannister opening itself seems weak. What's wrong, and can I fix it myself ?

Motor armature most likely has a short, causing it to run slower than normal. You will need to take it to a repair place. We have replaced quite a few motors in the plastic Luxs. I can supply the motor, if you know how to open the canister, and don't mind dismantling a few parts.
