What is causing the belt to slip on an Indesit we125 washing machine?

The drive belt on my Indesit we125 washing machine slipped off the large wheel attached to the drum, causing the drum to stop turning.

Having opened the machine and seen the problem, I fumbled around until I managed to work the belt back on to the motor spindle and drum wheel. However, I'm now running a test with the top off the machine and can see that the belt is mis-aligning on the wheel again. Everything seems in order with nothing loose between the motor spindle and the drum wheel.

Any ideas what the cause may be and how to fix this please?

I think I fixed it.

The belt slipped off again but this time I had the back off the machine (to see if there was a tension adjuster - there is not0. When I put the belt back on, I put it on the motor spindle as far forward (i.e. away from the back) as it would go. Since then, the machine seems to have been running without belt problems (just the usual F05 errors that have appeared since I inherited it).

Thanks for the feedback, Phil. The drum turns without difficulty, wobble or noise so I have no reason to think the bearings have gone. The motor seems rigid to the drum (both moving on the tension springs together, of course). I'm wondering if the belt has gone slack; even though it LOOKS ok, maybe it has stretched? Unfortunately, there seems to be no ability to adjust the tension so I'd have to buy a new belt without really knowing if it will fix the problem.

Unfortunately, I am nearly two hundred miles from Leeds so not a viable customer for you! If you have ANYthing further to add, I'd much appreciate hearing your thoughts.
