My diplomat dishwasher (ADP 8332) smells?

My dishwasher stores some water which smells really bad when i open it. It does wash well, but the only problem is that it smells. What i do is, i put a dishwashing tablet inside and turn the machine on to rinse, but the problem continues. There is this red light (*) the last indicator on the right. What do i do now?

The red light probably indicates that the machine is low on salt (for softening the water) or rinse aid. Make sure that both are filled to the correct level.
The smell may be caused by the machine not being used frequently. Dirty dishes will start to smell quite quickly if left in the machine for a while, as will the water in the sump. It is good practice to only run the machine when it is full for fuel efficiency etc. I am guessing your model has a pre-wash programme, if you run the machine using this, without any need for powder, it should flush out any smelly water and partially remove any bits of food and should get rid of the worst of the smell.
Hope this helps.
