>its just a small copper tube around 4mm thick . thats what ignites the pilot

is it ? - no - thats not how a thermocouple work.

the spark electrode ignites the pilot light
the idea of a thermocouple is to keep the gas valve open.

heat from the pilot light onto the thermocouple generates an electrical current which operates the solinoid valve to stay open.

should the pilot light go out the thermocouple wil cool and shut the gas valve.

never mind another diyer giving false and dangerous advice.

stick to shelf stacking. you can't get that wrong.

go to b@q wicks. or any diy store. and buy a universal thermal coupler. around £4.00 . unscrew from your heater and replace new one using one of the connectors supplied with the new coupler..you are not touching the gas supply so dont worry. although it is advisable to turn off before you start..its just a small copper tube around 4mm thick . thats what ignites the pilot.. you should have no problems
