the temp gauge on my vauxhall corsa 1.4 breeze?

when driving normally the temp gauge on my s reg corsa breeze keeps rising above 3 quarters. there is plenty of water in the header tank and there is no visible sign of oil in the water. the cooling fan comes in at the correct time, and i've tried running the heating on hot to cool the engine back down with no success.................................??????

Remove and Check thermostat operating correctly (watch when raising to boil in a saucepan); if perm. closed will tend to overheat, Have you tried flushing out cooling system inc. Radiator? take off top & bottom hoses (when cold!) from rad. put garden hose into first top, then bottom hose and check for flow clear out of other end. if OK do same for engine/heater. refill with coolant/antifreeze very slowly to avoid airlocks. If this doesn't cure, poss waterpump problem..Expensive!
