Advent 7012: how do I replace the CD-RW?

The CD-RW in my Advent 7012 is, like many others here, very unreliable, and I would like to replace it. Is this possible, and if so, is it a difficult operation. Advice and instructions much appreciated.

It either doesn't pick up whats on the CD or damages the CD thus rendering the data useless. I have tried cleaning it.

Hi, I have had the same problem. You can try removing the keyboard and re-seating the drive. Uner strong light locate three spring clips under the blue FN key, under the Alt Gr key and under the down arrow key. Using a small wathcmakers screwdriver gently push the tabs towards yourself(away from the screen) and the front of the keyboard will rise. Lift it up and locate the securing screw holding in the DVD drive.
If this does not work, I found the best solution was to buy an external drive, connecting via the Mini firewire. Works fine
Good luck
