When I insert a DVD into my portable DVD player it spins but the message says "loading" at first and then changes to "no disc"...any ideas?

Your DVD is the wrong region.

The only thing you can do is either buy a multi region DVD player (£100-£150 average) have your DVD player changed to multi region (£300) or buy the DVD you have in another region type (the number is normally on one of the hologrammes or in the info panel that is usually on the back of the dvd case)
