How can I mend a cut in the back of bridesmaid dress?

I accidently sliced through one of my bridesmaid dresses when opeing the box with a pair of scissors. The cut is about an inch an is on a visible area at the back. Please help!!!?? Can this be mended?

I can suggest using a piece of fusible web underneath & pressing with an iron on top of the cut to fuse it together.
