The pendulum does not swing?

I have recently acquired a wall clock approximately I am told 150 years old. It is a basic windup mechanism. The clock is not working and the pendulum does not swing. I have recently acquired the clock and am eager to repair it and donate it to charity...I eagerly await your reply as to why it does not swing.
Many thanks in anticipation. There is no name on the clock but I am told this was standard during that era. Terry

The pendulum does not swing for one several reasons. 1. The movement needs to be professionally cleaned. 2. There may be a broken part. 3. The clock is out of beat. 4. If the clock runs on springs, a spring may be broken. You can learn clock repair at http://ticktockpro.com Tick Tock Productions

Hi Terry,

There could be many reasons why it does not work, but if it is 150 years old, it may just need to be cleaned. I have found that most charity shops which will accept clocks, (some don't), will have a tame clock repairer who will look at their clocks for a small fee or for free. Approach them first before you do any damage to the clock by forcing it.

Good luck,
