Boiler pressure?

Hi, I was unable to get central heating working with my Ferroli F30 boiler. The hot water seems to work to both taps and the shower. Out of curiosity, I tried twiddling around with a metallic loop pipe, when I heard a swooshing noise and the pressure gauge jumped from 1.7 bar to 3 bar. I was wondering if that is bad, and if yes, how do I get it back? Thanks...

3bar is a little high, i dont tend to put more than 1.5bar in boilers i work on.
Seeing as your hot water is ok, the fault wont be a main functional part but something specific to the CH.
Does the boiler try to run when you want heating on?

Ashwin,
My installation plumber told me to keep it at 1.8 to 2 bar so i suppose its a bit high.
I'm told that the boilers have a safty valve if they get too pressurised so possibly it's not unsafe yet.
To lower the pressure I know of two options, usually one of the lowest radiators might have a tap on underneath where you can drain a bit of water or bleed it through one of the radiator bleeding valves (messy option).
Hope this helps.
