My Wii wont display a picture on my tv screen.It switches on & spins the disc,but it just says AV1 on the tv screen,no picture appears.It has never done this before.When i switch the console on & off the screen flickers for a second as though its trying.I'm thinking it might be the AV lead??

try it in a different av port, check the leads for tightness at both ends. try it on another tv if possible, this will help identify the problem.
