Pioneer DVD player no longer plays CDs?

My Pioneer DV-626D no longer seems to be able to read most CDs. Occassionaly I will find a CD that it will read however it normally it fails to recognise the disc. If I can get it to read the CD it often skips. Strangely the playback of DVDs is fine!

Any help is much appreciated

I have the same problem with a Wharfedale 750 If you get a solution other than buyinng a new player let me know.
I have tried cleaning the lens but no benefit gained.

I too have the same problem. The first time it happened i changed a sound related setting in the set up menu and it started working again (sorry can't remember what it was) but my problem was consistant with all cd's not intermediate. However the exact same problem you are having with cd playback i am now having with Dvd playback and i have today detemined that the small motor that drives the disk has had its life, as it will spin with a little encouragment from a delcate finger(with outer casing off ) but not fast enough to read the disk. I'm searching for a motor thats how i stumbled accross your question. Hope this helps.
