How can I fix my Kenmore Refrigerator , Model 106.53632300 door handle?

The top of the right door handle is loose. I know there are 2 screws that hold it to the door, but I how do I get to them to tighten the handle?

Thank you for this advice! Although the screw that is attached to the handle ( the one u use a allen key on) came off my handle and was still attached to my fridge, this post here helped me. My handle was have off. From this I knew I could push up and the whole
hanlde would come off. From there I had to unscrew both screws to remove the backet off the fridge in order to get the Allen key screw off. My handle is back on good as new! My husband wil
Be surprised when he comes home to see i figured out how to fix this!! Thanks again!

Followed this thread to try to tighten my Freezer handle. For newer models DO NOT tap handle up - to remove push left, to reattach press face against Freezer and push left. Simple !

The above explanation does work very well, however, we had a bit of trouble pulling the handle up. We realized that there is a mechanism inside the handle that loosens over time and that is why the top of the handle eventually backs out. If you are having difficulty lifting the handle off the fix the problem, try the following: because the handle is loose, you can see behind the loose a handle a metal clip/tab. Place a flat screwdrive under the tab and push towards the door. The. Have and assistant lift up and the handle will come off. Then simply tighten the gold bolt that is loosened with an Allen key and slide the handle back on. If you want to see the workings of this handle, try popping off the good handle as an example.
Good luck. Ultimately this problem must arrive over time as this gold Bolt slowly backs out loosening the handle.

After being told by the Sears repair guy that he would charge $65.00 to just show up and that most repairs cost $150.00, I got online and read this. No exaggeration - walked into the kitchen did what this guy said to do and in less than one minute had the handle back on the door!! Just saved $150.00. Thanks to the person that posted this!!

Ours is a Kenmore 106.56362400 SxS and after spending a frustrating year where the top of the fridge handle became looser and looser with no obvious way to tighten it and service calls running close to $100, I just googled the problem and came across this site. Slide the handle up as per answer below and discovered the star screw on the top of the handle was loose, the brackets on the door were fine. Took less than 30 seconds to tighten the screw and remount the handle.

THANK YOU!!

Thanks for posting this!!!!! It helped so very much.

My handles on the 5 year old Kenmore side by side (106-54563300) were so loose that the top wiggled and the bottom finally came off.

After reading in this thread how to remove the handle and work the clips holding the fastening screw, I simply used an alan wrech to tighten the screws and reattched the door handle.

Worked like a charm!

Yes, hitting from the bottom pushes the handle up. The door mounts have a spring-like part that can be pressed back towards the door so the handle screw will pass over it easier. If the handle has pulled away from the door enough you can use a flat head screw driver to push this part back and lift the handle up and off. Tighten loose handle screw(s), position and slide snap handle onto the door. It should be flush now. See owner's manual for the style 2 handle removal picture.

tap hard! from bottom of handle. Handle moves up then off. Tighten screws. Tap handle back from top of handle.
