turning the kirby off with the head down makes the belt move up to the end of the spindle, then when it started again it breaks it( allway lift up head before turning off) or the roller is not adjusted correctlly on the older models, there is a screw at each end of the roller, these need to be adjusted so about 3mm of bristles can be seen looking a cross the silver plate on the bottom of the head, also turn the kirby on with the head up and click the toe ratchet until you hear a tone change then one more click ( note different carpet pile lenghs need different heights)
