One side of zipper fastner has come off, how can I get it back together?

how fustrating to find the question I need answer for and get the answer I am not looking for !
IT people think it is all about them ! a zip is a zip and we all wear them, no excuse !!
in answer to the question - I have the same problem. One side of the zip has come of on my jacket pocket. i have repaired other zips by forcing the side back on with a small pair of pointy pliers, or by sacrifying one of the steps and sliding it in through the gap left, but in this case the zip is continuous and can not take out just one step. So I am stuck and needed help.
