Had exactly the same problem - a humming noise from the boiler and no heating. Isolated boiler from mains power, removed casing and although fan motor would turn, was a little stiff. A liberal squirt of WD40 at both ends of the motor and tried boiler again. Fan worked fine and heating was restored. No need to remove the fan or any components.

just had the same problem. took the fan off (its easy, couple of screws, a hose and 2 electrical connections). cleaned it and wd40 it and it started straight up!! if fan NBG get part no. from installation booklet and try keeptheheaton.co.uk (something like that, just google it). hope that helps, it saved me a couple of hundred quid!!
