Is there an economical cure for a disk reading problem on my Philips DVDR890 recordable dvd player? It does not happen with all discs, but has got progressively worse. All the discs are clean and not scratched. The cost when new is preventing me from slinging it at the tip.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY DVDR 890. ITS JUST A PIECE OF JUNK. HAD IT REPAIRED BY PHILIPS, LASTED 6 MONTHS THEN BACK TO SQUARE ONE. GOT BACK INTOUCH WITH PHILIPS WHO TOLD ME IT NEEDS A NEW LASER ($250). THIS UNIT WAS JUST OVER 12 MONTHS OLD AT THE TIME AND IS NOW STUCK IN THE BOX IN THE GARAGE. READ ALL FORUMS AND IT SEAMS THAT EVERYONE WHO AS BOUGHT THIS UNIT AS HAD PROBLEMS. PHILIPS KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND SHOULD HAVE CALLED THE UNITS BACK. BUT OH NO ITS THE CUSTOMER THATS GOT TO LIVE WITH IT.
I ADVICE PEOPLE TO STOP AWAY FROM PHILIPS AND LOOK AT OTHER BRANDS I FOR ONE WON'T BE BUYING ANOTHER PHILIPS.
