petrol makita chainsaw keeps cutting out?

chainsaw starts then runs for a few seconds before stopping
paul palgrave, November 2007
1 of 2 things. 1 Carburetor is starving for gas and just using what is in the carburetor. Either a blocked or plugged fuel filter in the tank or the screen in the caburetor is laquered over. or 2 your leaving the choke on too long or the high speed jet is plugged and causing it to flood itself. If you start it on choke and it dies, and then can start it again right away on choke then you have a jet plugged in the carburetor.

I agree with paul, note when you try to start the chainsaw put the choke on full, then pull it until it sounds like its almost started, once this has happened switch off the choke and pull it again within a few pulls it will start normally, then leave the choke in the off position.

Sounds like a blocked Carburettor or too much Choke.
Dismantle and clean, check Fuel filter in the tank or it may be inline. Swill out the Petrol Tank, fill with fresh mixed 25 to 1 petrol.

good luck
